This week our Star of the Week was...

Carlisle!
Carlisle, you are such a great help in Room 4 and
you always show our school values!
You know so much about motorbikes and cars!
Thanks for teaching us so much about them
I know Lisa enjoys all your knowledge too.

We have had a super busy week in Room 4 this week.
A lot of the learning was based around queens!

Ollie kicked the week off with a brilliant queen that he had made.
He shared her for news.
Ollie taught us the name of the large and royal stick queen's hold.
It is called a SCEPTRE

Sadie had made a volcano during the weekend!
We had a great time watching it erupt.
Thanks for bringing it in Sadie!

Carlisle had the Mystery Bag.
He had us guessing with these clues...
Lots of people asked fantastic questions and some of us knew what the mystery item was!
We had talked about a quiver earlier in the week.
Carlisle used his thinking brain and found his bow and arrow at home!

Please leave your toys at home...
Room 4 will only share toys for news if they link to the letter of the week.
  • We have had lots of toys at school and I'd like to encourage everyone to leave their toys at home.
  • Try to find things that link to the 'Letter of the Week' or our Inquiry topic for news sharing.
  • We always enjoy seeing photos of things you have made at home, done in the weekend or special things you have at home that are too special to bring to school.
  • You could ask someone in your family to email them to me: rach@opawa.school.nz

Room 4 had a crafty week.
We decorated Q's and made these awesome and very royal crowns!

This week our 'Star of the Week' was...
Eve B!
Eve, you did a great job this week.
Thanks for all your help.

We were really busy with Z this week.
We had an 'art attack' week and worked with Zebras.
We created zebras, wrote about Zebras, and drew Zebras!

Then we did some Zero art!
Check out our 0000000's

Inquiry - Our Neck of the Woods.
This week we learnt how to draw Kiwi's as part of our Inquiry.
We all did an incredible job. Some people added the night sky because Kiwis are nocturnal!

Fabulous work Room 4.
You are all such arty artists!

On Wednesday morning we had a visit from Paula.
She taught us about, 'Belly-breathing'.
This is good to do when you are worried, upset, angry and need to calm down.
We learnt how to open our bellies up and how to breath deeply.
We all felt very calm afterwards and practised again during the week.

It's important to do some belly-breaths if you are getting into the orange or red zone.
Belly-breathing helps us get back into the green zone.

Fun with Numbers
We are getting really good at making sure our numbers look right and are around the correct way.

 Lucy's 5 has a really big belly!
Nice straight back,
Big fat tummy
and a hat on top.
This makes number 5!

These are perfect 5's by Zach.

NEWS
Zack took the Mystery Bag home this week and had a stumped with his Rubics Cube.
We asked some fantastic questions to try and find out what it was.

Zack also shared a Zombie, a Zero and a Z for news this week.

 News reminder...
We share 'Letter of the Week' items first and if we have time we share other news.
There is often lots of 'news' to share each day.
We might not always get around to sharing everything as we need to have time for learning too!

Discovery - Olympics!
We were really lucky this week because some of our senior students came and ran Junior Olympics during our Discovery time.
We got into small groups and had a lot of fun trying different games.

We had a game of Duck-duck-goose and then...

We had an even bigger game.
And then..

The whole of the Verandah joined in and we had an even bigger game!!!
Thank you to the seniors for being so organised and running such a neat Olympics for us.

This week the letter of the week is...

I wonder what interesting things we'll find to share this week!

Health and Wellbeing
Thank you for staying at home if you haven't been well.
We are trying really hard not to spread germs in Room 4.
There is a nasty tummy bug and a horrible cold around at the moment.

We all work hard keeping the germs away in Room 4!

Remember to take your nail polish off for school tomorrow.
Check this out girls!
Lydia and Florence I wonder if your Mummy's can do this!
Thank you for being such a fantastic group of learners.
This week we're going to make crowns!
